The Office for Personal Data Protection is an independent body set up to:
- supervise observance of the legal obligations laid down for processing of personal data;
- maintain the register of notified data processing operations;
- deal with initiatives and complaints from citizens concerning breach of law;
- provide consultancy in personal data protection.
We develop our activities on the basis of Act No. 110/2019 Coll., on personal data processing, as well as by several other laws (for more details please see About the Office’s competence).
The purpose of this act is to protect citizens’ right to privacy, which while guaranteed by the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, is coming increasingly under threat in contemporary society due to advancements in information technologies.
